The number one reason to use a lap quilting frame is that you want to be able to quilt anywhere at anytime. Lap quilting frames are highly portable so you can take them with you. Whether this is simply into another room or to a friend’s house is really up to you, the key here is that you are not chained to one spot and can move around and quilt where you want, whether that spot is in bed or in front the fire is irrelevant.

The second reason is that you do not have the space in your house to dedicate to quilting. A full size quilt takes up a lot of space and can require that you have an entire room dedicated simply to this purpose. If you do not have the space for this then a lap quilting frame is the answer to your problems. You can simply use this in the convenience of wherever you happen to be.

The third reason kind of falls in with the second reason, and that is storage. When not in use you can easily put away and store the lap quilting frame whereas with a full size one this can be much more difficult. I have placed mine in the closet, the attack, wherever and not had a problem. Large full size quilting frames present many more issues.

They generally speaking are going to be less expensive then a full size quilting frame and far less expensive then a machine quilting frame. You can usually get one for very cheap and start quilting almost just for the cost of the quilt materials.

The last reason to use a lap quilting frame is that they are very easy to learn on. If you are just getting started you can learn how to quilt much quicker on these smaller frames then on a much larger frame. By getting farther quicker you will grow to love quilting more.
